I am no Obama fan and I’m inclined to “distrust but and verify” anything says, however I’m also saddened by how little commentary and press this has received.

This is an enormous change in narrative for Obama and if I actually believed he’d follow through it’d be a remarkable milestone. It deserves commentary, even if it’s showing disbelief.

Unfortunately I would be a safer investment to buy gold than to expect Obama to put anything substantial forward here. As I seem to say more regularly than I would ever like, I will happily eat my words and be more than pleasantly surprised.

Frankly I’ll even happily post on my blog with the title “I was wrong about Obama!” if I’m off on this (I’d offer to buy you lunch, but I suspect we don’t hang in the same circles. :-) ).

Still - keep pushing. Your efforts are appreciated.

The President is sounding like a fighter these days. He even says he’ll be proposing a jobs bill in September – and if Republicans don’t go along he’ll fight for it through Election Day (or beyond).

That’s a start. But read the small print and all he’s talked about so far is extending the payroll…

So, what you’re saying is if nothing else the President is effectively lying. So the question that I have, is does “realpolitik” justify lying? If so, how do I explain to my kid that, “Lying is wrong little one, except when done by really powerful people?”

Maybe the plain straight truth can’t work, but as far as I can see, no President in my lifetime has actually tried it.
